Job Details:  Part-time, 20 hours per week

Exempt position

Salary range $20,000 – $23,000 per year (depending on experience)

Reports to Senior Pastor


Primary Duties:

1. Serve to bring children and youth into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and the strategic vision of the church by coordinating activities that deliver a consistent, spiritual learning experience for students to stay connected to Beulah and to grow in their relationship with God. Ensure that all Youth and Children’s ministries are fully integrated across all ministries, and that the program supports the focus areas of the church – worship, faith growth, and service.


2.  Coordinate all aspects of the children’s and youth weekly Sunday School program to include selecting and ordering educational materials, recruiting and training of volunteers, and creating and managing the budget for these resources.


3.  Provide leadership and direction for children’s and youth special events (i.e. Sprouts, Easter Eggstravaganza, Fall Festival, Family Christmas Eve service, Youth Sunday, etc.).


4.  Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach; Lead and participate in weekly youth group gatherings.


5.  Coordinate and teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the pastors, and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom.


6.  Plan and design Vacation Bible School in collaboration with the Education Committee.


7.  Mentor children and youth in developing their leadership skills.


8.  Recruit and train volunteers who work with children and youth in all aspects of children’s/youth ministry, and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to children/youth ratios.


9.  Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to children’s and youth ministries.


10.  Work in partnership with the Outreach Committee to effectively reach children and youth in the community and develop a strategic children’s/youth ministry outreach plan.


11.  Keep records of participation and manage the children’s and youth ministry budgets.


13.  Make yourself available to youth in a variety of ways (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.)


14.  Ensure the Child Protection Policy is observed in all children’s and youth ministry settings.


Other Duties:

1.  Attend meetings with the Council on Ministries and the Education Committee.


2.  Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.


3.  Ensure compliance with the Safe Sanctuary Policy.


4.  Identify opportunities for children and youth to support other church ministries.


Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

1.  Must embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology.


2.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent work experience is required.


3.  Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement Christian education curriculum for children and youth.


4.  Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.


5.  Ability to recruit and organize volunteers within the church.


6. Certified in First Aid/CPR (or willing to become certified).
